Checksum Cooperative

The Cooperative began operating in Russian language, and is still operated in both Russian and English.
Кооператив начинал работать на русском языке, и всё ещё администрируется на русском и английском.

[Russian language / Русский язык]

Checksum Cooperative is a provider of fun, open-source and privacy respecting services, (hopefully) allowing for a smooth and enjoyable alternative Internet experience.

Kind, fluffy moderators! Acceptable stability! Everything's free of charge.

Right now the name applies to the services under ilyamikcoder.com domain, though I am hoping to get a standalone domain and more infrastructure in the future. (Maybe we'll get ourselves one of those upcoming .meow domains?...)

The Codex - Code of Conduct

The Cooperative has a set of rules every user is expected to be following. You can read it [here].

So what do we have in store?

Sharkey (Social Networking, Fediverse) software | instance

Ever heard of the Fediverse? No? Well I suggest you to try out our Sharkey instance at mk.ilyamikcoder.com! Fediverse is a smaller and comfier social network without annoying unpredictable algorithms getting onto your nerves, and it consists of multiple interoperating networks from many different operators, including us!

Our Sharkey instance is a successor to the old Mastodon instance that we had to abandon overnight due to Mastodon requiring way too much resources to function from some point. If you were on that previous instance, and would like to get a data export, I can still assist with that if you ask me.

Peertube (Video Hosting) software | instance

Our Peertube instance is a great alternative to Youtube for your small video channel you'll setup for your friend group! It is also connected to the Fediverse and interconnected with other providers.

Matrix (Messaging) project | web client

Ah, Matrix. The platform everyone's in a love-hate relationship in. Despite being somewhat quirky and annoying at times, it will certainly do you better than whatever BIG thing you are using - assuming you'll get your friends hooked also.

We have a web-interface for our instance [here], though you'll have to manually contact me because Matrix does not have a registration pre-approval system. Bwah! It's still fun though.

XMPP (Messaging) project

I don't know why everyone's saying to switch to Matrix necessarily, I think XMPP (aka. Jabber) is very nice too. At least the clients are nicer in my opinion! While a somewhat dated tech, it is still serving folks well. Contact me for an account, please and thank you.

Cryptpad (Documents and Collaboration) software | instance

Cryptpad is Google Docs but nerdier. It features some fairly robust encryption, providing for a good place to write up your pancake conspiracy plans on. Our instance is here, ask me for an invite.

E-Mail web client

Everyone knows what email is, right? If you'll want your @ilyamikcoder.com address, contact me. Web dashboard is here.

Why does all of this matter?

Other people may give you a thousand page essay on the privacy, corporate stuff and whatever, but I think the primary reason to use ours (or anyone elses alternative services) is...

...it's fun!

Instead of bland, soulless tech giant services you'll get to use some small, homebrewed stuff administered by someone who actually cares about you, and who you can always get in touch in, not even necessarily to complain, but just to say hi. Where else can you get such possibilies? Google? Bwah!!!

Fun is the primary reason Checksum Cooperative exists - it's because I enjoy creating and maintaining it, and I hope you'll enjoy your stay here, too.
